Book Clubs

My students need 5 copies of 18 different chapter books, including "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing", "Dinosaurs Before Dark", and "Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane".

Who needs good literature? WE DO!!!! I am a third grade inclusion teacher at a lower income school.

Our school seriously lacks quality literature. We have the dinkiest literature closet with leveled readers that have no plot whatsoever. We are given a basal to teach from, but I believe that every child needs to be exposed to quality literature and by doing that children need to be exposed to all types of books out there.

In order to show my students that there is more out there than their text books and decodable readers, they need to read quality chapter books. Students need to dive in and and drink up the exciting plots of all types of genres. Who doesn't benefit from reading all types of books and reading them often? Therefore, I am requesting 5 copies of 18 different chapter books, including Esperanza Rising, James and the Giant Peach, and Dork on the Run. Students get into "Book Clubs" once a day with their classmates and each club will be reading a different chapter book. As they read they will have thoughtful teacher and student guided book discussions, as well as guided reading questions and reading journals. Groups will also create culminating projects of their book.

Your generosity will empower my students to love reading! You can give them the gift of books and the love of literature. You can make a difference in the lives of my students!
