Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Dear Kind Benefactor, The South Bronx is ground zero for childhood poverty in America. We have inspiring and resilient kids but they are not getting what they need when it comes to having exciting and inspiring books to read. Our students love to read but their families cannot afford to buy them enough books. This is why we need your help. This grant includes many copies of the adventure series "Alex Rider" where the main character uses his wits and persistence to overcome difficult situations. These are exactly the positive books that our kids really need to be reading. This grant also includes books for the girls in the form of the Internet Girls series by Lauren Myracle. Finally, this grant includes the last volume of the extremely popular graphic novel series "Bone". Students will use these precious books to read in groups and discuss the characters, the plots, and other literary details of the texts. Have you ever been part of a book club? Have you ever recommended a book to a good friend or colleague? Our students love working together and discussing their books. However, for them to be able to do this they need many copies of the same book. By providing multiple copies of these series our students will be able to work with one another to explore the deeper themes and meanings of what they read. Please help us provide our students with this important academic experience of trying to understand and grapple with literature together. We especially need your generous help to get these books in the hands of our students. The school budget has been cut three times in the last year and we are hurting for resources. A gift of these books to our kids could help take them to the next level in reading skills and comprehension. Please invest in our kids! They are the future and are just waiting for someone like you to help them achieve their full potential. A donation of these books will reverberate throughout our school community. It will be because of you and your kindness that our kids continued to read and grow. Thank you and god bless.
