Our Bike is Broken

My students need an adapted bicycle .

We miss pedaling around the halls! "We finally learned to pedal the bike this year. We need help riding sometimes, but we are getting better at it everyday. Our legs are getting stronger and we feel proud when our peers see us in the halls. Our teacher says it helps us with motor planning and improves our visual attention too. Unfortunately, the bike is old and it broke -beyond repair is what we heard. We could really use a new bike. Its been a month and we miss pedaling around the halls". Our classroom serves students age 12-21 with severe disabilities. Two of our students have visual impairments, one is deaf/blind and 3 of them use wheelchairs. Despite their disabilities three of our students can pedal a three wheeled bicycle. The bike experience is more than just exercise. One of our students greets others as she sings down the hall on the bike. The other student has gone from total staff assistance (pushing her) to riding and smiling and pedaling by herself. Your contribution will allow these very unique students the freedom and independence you once had as a young person on a bicycle. Thank you so much for your consideration.
