I am a first grade teacher in a Chicago public school. I have thirty enthusiastic learners. Our school tries its best to give us the tools that we need in our classrooms. Although there are a few things that we would love to have, we do not have the funding to get them. In first grade we try to place a lot of emphasis on our daily writing. My class is constantly working on their handwriting, grammar and story writing. It is difficult however, to keep track of the students' stories because we use individual sheets of writing paper. Our class would love to have journals to keep all of our great stories together in one place to share with others. The journals that I am asking for would allow my students to have the basic fundamental practices that they will need to become great authors. The first journal book is a journal that the students would use everyday. There are daily topics that the students would be exposed to like punctuation, capitalization, grammar and spelling. All of which are fundamental in becoming an exceptional young author. The second journal book is for poetry. It would alow my students to read poems and to recognize rhyme and rhythm within poems. There is also some writing room for my students to respond to the poems that are already in the journals. I feel that it would be beneficial for my students to have these journals. I know that they can become great authors by having some of the the fundamental tools that they need at their disposal. I know that my class can become young authors with your help!
