We have our headphones, our books, and the radio but the cords are constantly getting wrapped up and there is no room on the table for all of our stuff, said one of my first graders. With this being a constant problem in my first grade classroom of 20 students it is no wonder why they do not get as much work done as they should at the listening center. Teaching all subject areas to students of varying abilities and interest can be rather tricky. However, all the students love the time they can spend listening to a book being read to them. The listening center provides an opportunity to bring to life an education book that may be difficult for low performing students to read.

However, the problem is that the radio we have been using is several years older then them and the connections don't always work the best. Neither does the tape or c.d. player. We are often left with an error sign on the c.d. player or tapes being eaten by the tape player. When the c.d./cassette player does work students are often struggling with all the cords in the way and very little room to open up a book to follow along to while they listen to it being read. Then when they want to clean up the center cords are often tangled and left laying all over.

The CD/cassette player and the audio storage center would provide a neat way to put away our audio equipment neatly. With a new radio the students could also spend less time untangling wires or trying to follow along in a book while there is no room on the table.

You help will create opportunities for my students to listen to a good book without fussing with wires, eaten tapes, or unreadable c.d.'s.
