I teach instrumental music to 9th through 12th grade students. We currently have 4 bands at our school, including Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and Pep Band. Students also form small jazz and classical ensembles. We currently have 135 students enrolled in band, which is approximately 10% of the student body. We perform regularly at school athletic games, campus events, and formal concerts. We are also ambassadors in the community and the school district and receive invitations to perform at a variety of private and public events.

There is currently no funding for music-related materials and supplies in our school district. The 135 students who take part in the band program must purchase their own instruments, uniform, and materials, including a pep band folder and extra slips to hold the nearly 50 pep band songs we perform.

Many of our students are unable to afford all the required materials for band. We have several fund raising activities that are implemented to defray the cost of materials and supplies. A grant of pep band folders and extra slips will be one less expense incurred by new students who enroll in our program.

Student pep band folders are a one-time expense that will last all four years of high school. The idea of welcoming each new student to band in September and handing them their personal pep band folder would reinforce the friendly, positive and accepting atmosphere for which our school band is known throughout our community and the school district.
