There has never been anyone as excited about teaching ancient history as I am. I am a new teacher to middle school and am in the process of accumulating materials that will help bring ancient history alive to my sixth graders. I am a social studies and writing teacher and know that books are an invaluable resource for my students.

We recently finished a unit on Egypt and I was able to borrow another teacher's books in order for my students to create a group Ancient Egypt newspaper project. It was phenomenal to see the product that the students were able to create. Their enthusiasm for the activity increased their learning dramatically. I would love to be able to continue developing creative culminating activities such as this with the help of additional resources.

As a new teacher to middle school,my classroom has limited resources so I have been spending a significant amount of my own money to purchase materials that will increase my students' learning. A classroom library that supplements the textbook is a necessity for a student's ability to fully comprehend the variety of cultures and times our ancient history class encompasses. Our students come to us at a variety of reading levels and often need additional resources to comprehend the standards taught. Many students are also second language learners who benefit from a simpler text in the form of picture books. The books I am requesting are written at a variety of levels and many of them base the information covered on very detailed illustrations. Included in the list of books requested are texts about the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Rome. Each of these units is a primary focus of the sixth grade curriculum. Our students would benefit greatly with the addition of these resources to our classroom.

Your help will ensure a new generation's appreciation for the important civilizations that have gone before us. Thanks to you, I will be able to bring ancient history alive through the use of books to create fun and educational activities that will solidify student learning.
