13 inch MacBook -- Good Things Come in Small Packages

My students need one 13" MacBook computer.

This project expired on June 8, 2009.

Ours is a NY public school serving an international community with more than 40 active languages in our building. We are Title I free lunch eligible whose diverse population understands the power of technology to have a positive impact on young lives.

Video speaks to our youth and they think visually. A 13 inch Macbook offers children the opportunity to create projects through video using a machine whose softare edits and plays multimedia with ease.

The 13 inch MacBook has an iSight feature that facilitates recording of video and audio and also has simple to use software to edit student created movies. Interviews can be conducted anywhere with this portable computer. This is ideal for 10 year old students who can concentrate on the content of their videos instead of struggling to master complicated software. Imagine student created movies with interviews and historical events using primary source documents from the Library of Congress, all assembled with one small computer. This is definitely an example of good things coming in small packages. Small yet robust, this 13 inch MacBook can be used anywhere in the building, a feature useful because our limited space often requires mobility so that others can use the classroom during the day.

The 13 inch MacBook has speed and great graphics display which are perfect for visually oriented young students whose busy school days require that we make the most of our limited time. Technology is always evolving and it is important that we offer the best to those with limited resources sending the message that excellence counts for all. If we are to level the playing field and give all students the same opportunities, we must offer the best in technology to allow them to be competitive. A 13 inch MacBook would send the message that they deserve the best to create their video projects in a 21st century learning environment. We hope Donors Choose will agree.
