Computer Daze- Laptop Needed For Writing Center

I teach Language Arts at an urban middle school that serves a diverse population. Most of our students have limited access to computers at home, so it falls on the schools to try to prepare them for a very high tech world. Every day, approximately 120 vibrant students travel through my classroom where I have only two computers to help them become technologically literate. One of our two computer labs is undergoing major renovations and not all of my students receive computer as an elective class. With these limitations, what is a teacher to do to help her students? She turns to helpful people who know how important it is to have up-to-date computer skills in this ever changing world. She turns to amazing and generous people like you! It is my dream to get a laptop computer to place in our Writing Center to help bring it into the 21st Century. While it is vital for students to have paper and pencil knowledge in terms of writing, they must also know how to translate that knowledge into computer language. Since a laptop is portable, it can be moved with ease for group work as well as presentations using the Smart Board and Power Point. This vital tool will be a major plus as we collaborate with the librarian to learn about Cyber Safety in preparation for our yearlong author wiki project. While one laptop will not solve all our problems, it is a step in the right direction. The possibilities for this tool are endless and the best part is it can all begin with you.
