I am a full day kindergarten teacher at an inner city elementary school. My students are second language learners, learning English as their second language. Every year I have at least 20 students. Over 90% of my students receive free or reduced lunch status. My students love to come to school. They are rarely absent. Most of my students live in 1 room apartments or studios. Most of the parents work long hours, 6 days a week and are unable to volunteer in the classroom. They also do not speak English. My energetic 5-year-olds are always excited to come to school and learn. My classroom is a place where my students feel safe and comfortable to explore and learn. Being second language learners, they need many different activities to develop their oral English. One activity that encourages and develops their oral language is singing. Having a CD player and various CDs will help my students develop their English language. The materials I am requesting will last many years and will help many kindergarteners learn English in a fun and natural way. The CDs that I am requesting teach and reinforce concepts and vocabulary for the alphabet, colors, numbers, shapes, telling time, parts of the body, forms of transportation, and safety. The concepts and vocabulary are important to all kindergarten students to learn. The songs are simple and easy to learn which will encourage all of my students to participate and become successful learners. Your generosity will make it possible for my students to learn and develop their oral English language while singing and having fun!
