My students need two Canon digital cameras to document research done for NASA cloud observations, Forest Watch white pine data, and planting science experiments overseen by the Botanical Society of America.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach AP Environmental Science, Biology, Botany and Ecology in an inner city school serving minority students.

If we have digital cameras, we will be able to upload our research images of plant experiments, cloud observations, and inquiry data collection regarding the effect of ground level ozone on the health of white pine trees. We were unable to offer pictures to the plantingscience website, nor to the NASA CERES S'COOL research website, or to the University of New Hampshire's Forest Watch program. Our school and district simply does not have the funds to support these projects. There are not enough students entering the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Having the cameras will engage the students, and hopefully inspire them to go into these areas.

2 digital cameras will engage students by documenting the real inquiry science that I guide students in, as described above. I am the only teacher in my school that has students research and collect data that is used by scientists in the field.

Receiving these cameras will make a difference - a picture is worth a thousand words, as we engage American science students to compete in the global scientific community.
