I am a second-year teacher and am thrilled to be starting my first year of teaching Kindergarten. Our school is located in an economically-challenged, historically under-resourced area of Illinois. Due to budget cuts and funding constraints, there is a limit to what the school can provide. Since I am starting fresh in a new classroom, I am in the process of gathering materials and supplies to create an engaging, stimulating learning environment.

Our classroom was not originally designed for kindergarten. All of the furniture, including the tables and chairs are meant for older, bigger children. The tables are too high and the kids have difficulty writing and working at them. The tables are also very long, so they take up a lot of room and we are always running into them as we walk around the classroom. We want to clear more space for learning and to help traffic flow more smoothly.

New tables would also allow us to redesign the room so we can provide more space for creative learning. We look forward to opening painting and science centers, as well as creating a “cozy corner” for eager readers with our new-found space.

I am requesting five new age-appropriate adjustable tables. Something so simple will make a monumental difference for us every minute of every day. Please give our classroom family some space to breathe and learn!
