Classroom Clickers Create Class Culture of Questioning

My students need a class set of 32 Quick Audience Response voting system classroom clickers.

My classroom consists of urban students with little interest in education and who don't want to be seen as being interested. I have 1 class of AP Biology students and 3 classes of Freshman level biology with students from grades 9 - 12 in a very high needs district and community. My classes are filled with students with many different levels of interest in school and passing.

In an urban district students don't often want to be seen as participating because it will lessen their standing with their peers. Questions asked in class are often answered by the same several students and the students who don't answer sometimes fall by the wayside because they don't feel comfortable speaking up. By having a way for students to feel more comfortable participating and be more involved I can build a better knowledge base into my students and increase the number of students who are likely to pass my class.

To be able to increase the number of students who are actively involved in the lesson and activities I need a way to make sure that more of the students answer the questions and that they feel safe that no one else will know how they answered their questions or make fun of them. A set of classroom clickers will help these students become more involved in their education and increase their chances of passing the class and the required Regents exam at the end of the year. The classroom clickers will increase the students comfort level, increase the number of students actively answering question, and will help to build an environment where more students ask questions on a daily basis.

By purchasing this set, which my school can't afford to do, you will, directly, help me to increase student involvement. By increasing student involvement we will directly impact student achievement in this class and in their other classes. By helping to increase student achievement we will ensure that these students have a better chance of graduating and becoming successful in a college setting.
