Your generosity allowed me the capacity to coach students independently on different soccer drills and conditioning exercises. We were always the underdog, but played our hearts out and shocked other teams.\r\n I am very thankful for your generosity. My scholars gathered around right away, asking questions and trying to get a closer look. They had been learning about veins, infection control, and safety for weeks, but this was the first time they could actually see and practice what they had been studying. One scholar laughed and said, \"Wait, we actually get to use this? Oh yeah, we're legit now.\"\r\n\r\nSince then, our classroom has transformed into a mini patient draw center. Scholars rotate through skill stations where they practice therapeutic communication, tie tourniquets, find veins on one another, and perform safe blood draws using the new arm just like they would with real patients. They are learning how to perform each step of the phlebotomy process correctly, which will prepare them for certification and future jobs. It has been amazing to watch how seriously they take it. You can see their confidence grow with each class. They coach one another, ask thoughtful questions, and treat every session as if they are working with a real patient.\r\n\r\nThe first time they used the arm, there were a few nervous laughs and plenty of \"you go first\" moments, but once they started, they were hooked. Seeing the blood fill the tubes during a successful draw makes the scholars' eyes light up and their faces beam. After her first successful draw, one scholar ran up to me and said, \"Ms. Cook, I actually did it! I could see myself doing this in a hospital for real.\" That moment said everything. These hands-on experiences make their career goals feel reachable, and that motivation carries into every part of our class.\r\n\r\nOne meaningful part of this project is that the venipuncture arm we received has a dark skin tone. For my scholars, who are mostly Black and Brown future healthcare professionals, that representation matters. Too often, medical training models only show light skin, which does not reflect the patients they will care for or the communities they come from. This arm has sparked powerful conversations about health equity and why it is important for all patients to be seen and understood. It also helps my scholars see themselves in this work. Representation in medical education is not just important, it is inspiring.\r\n\r\nThis resource has already changed how we teach and learn. Scholars who are preparing for Phlebotomy Technician Certification are gaining authentic practice that mirrors what they will experience in clinics and hospitals. It has built not only skill but also pride. For many of my scholars, this arm represents more than a tool. It is a reminder that people out there believe in them and want to see them succeed.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my scholars now walk into class with excitement and purpose. They are learning real skills, building confidence, and picturing themselves as future healthcare professionals. This project has made a lasting difference, not only in their training but in how they see their place in the medical field. From all of us in the Medical Laboratory and Health Sciences program at East High School, thank you for helping empower the next generation of healthcare heroes.","fullyFundedDate":1746480707554,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-future-healthcare-heroes-with/9135456/","projectTitle":"Empowering Future Healthcare Heroes With a Venipuncture Arm","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cook","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8085123_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740706235261","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jmcook"},{"teacherId":4866302,"projectId":9077210,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students each received copies of Frankenstein and A Raisin in the Sun!
