Reading Blaster Software II for Struggling Readers

My students need seven copies of the Reading Blaster software.

I am a math/computer teacher in urban MI. I teach grades 6-12. We have over 65% free/reduced lunch. It is definitely a high-need community.

I am very worried about the economy, so I am trying to create an indefinitely-sustainable program that will help at-risk students with their reading. Our students are often 1-6 years behind grade level in reading. I believe increasing the reading scores will solve all our academic problems. Right now our school pays subscription fees for software to help raise our test scores. I fear that in times of low budgets, which are inevitable in any school district, we will lose all of our test-score raising software. We will be left with nothing.

The Knowledge Adventure Reading Blaster CD-ROM Series will help raise our reading scores indefinitely, as long as our computers keep running. I wish I could buy more than 7 licenses. I think that by teaching a child to read, the community helps the child succeed in school. Most frequently-suspended students are poor readers. By helping students to read better with this software, discipline, standardized test scores, and overall attitude will improve.

I really believe in reading. As a child, I learned to love reading from my parents and as a result never had any significant problems in school. The at-risk students in our community often lack stable home lives--this also means that many of them never learn to read properly. The school somehow has to step in and help these struggling students.
