With your help, my students are finding their love for reading one page at a time. Throughout the week, we have dedicated independent reading time based on individual choice. Many of the students are excited for the opportunity to be the first student to read the new books! \r\n\r\nOnce students have read their books, they will create a project of their choice to showcase the novel, characters, themes, symbols, and literary devices used throughout the book. They will share their experience reading the novel with classmates in their literature circles and make recommendations for their peers and future students. \r\n\r\nAgain, I can not thank you enough for helping my students. I introduced them to the books to let them know that if they wanted to read them, they would be available. I didn't push but I saw a few students gravitate and have started asking questions. Once they realized the efforts I put forth to ensure thy had every supply stocked in class, I could tell they appreciated it. So many kids are used to not being able to do something because of funds or lack of proper equipment/supplies, it is pure joy when they can actually do everything. \r\n\r\nThe supplies were so helpful to close the year, but even more useful to begin a new school year. Each student has their own folder to keep their warmup papers. The markers, colored pencils, and pencils helped students to complete many assignments at the start of the year to help get to know themselves, each other, and me, which will foster a stronger classroom community. Students love to use dry erase boards in math class because they can easily fix mistakes, if necessary. \r\n\r\nOther items like the storage bins, paper, pencil bups helped to color code and decorate the classroom. When families showed up to the open house, they greatly appreciate the colors, openness, and vibe in my room. This first impression helped to transform the way everyone sees math and math classes. \r\n\r\n\r\nThank you again for being a Light in my learning space. The students love writing time. This gives the students a chance to get out of the norm and to either sit in the hallway on carpet squares or walk the squares while talking to a partner. We have taken spelling tests, played games, answered questions about novels that we were reading and even wrote fun/pleasant notes to classmates. Any time I want the students to do something a bit different, we pull out the mini whiteboards. The weather is changing and I can't wait to get the students and these boards outside. Maybe, we will draw mindfulness pictures or write in complete sentences or practice our cursive writing skills. The possibilities are endless and we thank you so much thinking of us.\r\n\r\nWe also asked for a larger white board for the wall. The maintenance staff has not put the board on the wall, as of yet, but he says that I am still on his list. I am still waiting but hopefully the board will be up within the next few weeks.","fullyFundedDate":1733172895983,"projectUrl":"project/writing-writing-will-take-you-somewher/8796591/","projectTitle":"Writing, Writing, Will Take You Somewhere","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ezell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9368849_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1702738727580","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9368849"},{"teacherId":6624381,"projectId":8924759,"letterContent":"I thank you for your generosity to help me increase engagement in my classroom. Having proper supplies available for every students removes obstacle of accessibility. My students love when I develop creative art projects for them to deepen their math practice, but without markers and coloring pencils that became nearly impossible to continue in the classroom. We have caddies we use for each table set, so that they can continue these projects now. Students greatly appreciated having these items during our Math in Careers project. They were tasked to create a poster of their desired career, and research four ways that career uses math to perform its required tasks. As we are progressing in our geometry unit, the rulers are a HUGE help. Having straight lines is a must for all our transformations, angles, and shapes. Although, there was a slight learning curve for students to learn how to use the rulers properly, but now we are progressing nicely. The new document camera has greatly aided in their ability to see how math is done, and it is easier for them to replicate at their student desk. \r\n\r\nMy students are overwhelming accustomed to doing their math work on online platforms, or just doing packets and worksheets. However, this year, there are learning there are so many other ways they can do math. This has been a fun and engaging year for them. For most, they are changing their opinions about math and it is all thanks to you for stocking my class so I can create innovative ways to engage them in their math exploration.
