Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My 4th Grade students live in a very poor Hispanic community. Our school is a very close-knit community that puts the education of students first.

In December 2007, our school had a fire that left much of our technology smoke-damaged. Before the fire, our school was rich in technology. We had a fully functioning computer lab, a laptop cart, Alpha Smart carts, and numerous network printers. Students loved using the technology to enhance their learning. Students in my class were able to use the Internet to research, use Accelerated Reader, and use the Alpha Smarts to create published pieces of literature. My district is in a financial crisis. We currently only have 5 computers in our school. Currently, the district refuses to let our school order any computers, despite our unique situation.

I love to do Jeopardy games with my students in my class to review for tests. They look forward to it on a weekly basis. I have a wonderful group of students who are very eager to learn. They are so interested in Jeopardy because of the fact they play it in my classroom. I feel that if I had an electronic classroom version, it would help to fill the void of a lack of technology in my classroom. The game will be used to help students review classroom material on a weekly basis to enhance their learning.

Your help will make it possible for my students to interact with technology in the classroom once again. My students have asked me on numerous occasions when the computers are coming to our room. It breaks my heart to tell them we will not be receiving any this year. With your help, you will be able to bring a little bit of our school back that my students remember before the fire happened.
