I teach in a school district where, according to information provided by my own students, only 13 of my 156 students have access to the Internet outside of the school library. Most of these students, even if they have Internet, only use it for things like Facebook, MySpace, and anything else they can find to amuse themselves. I want to be able to show them that there are a lot of different things you can do with technology. In my Learning Strategies class, I am able to go into a large amount of depth with the students regarding their Literature and Language skills. We can spend more time on understanding the functions of transitive and intransitive verbs, but we also get to explore the relevance to their lives. Due to the high poverty of my school, however, it is hard to come up with materials I can use. The internet provides access to endless clips to talk about communication skills, writing, and literature.

My students love to keep up with sports, music, and local politics. Interviews, reviews, and current events are important to understand and comprehend as a student. In my class, I would like to go more in depth with these ideas and get my students exposed to issues. The problems arises in that my school lacks the resources to be able to provide this for the students. I would like to expose them, through projecting new stories, interviews, and movies, to different types of literature and real-world issues.

I need an LCD projector to be able to show clips, new stories, and interviews to the students. The school has extremely limited resources and I wouldn't be able to access the LCD projector when issues come up and my students want to explore or understand a specific issue or event. The LCD projector also allows me to teach different media, especially from organizations like Teaching Tolerance, that I might not be able to do otherwise.

Your assistance will allow me to expose my students to information and resources that they might otherwise not be exposed to. Your generosity will greatly improve my students' experience in the classroom, by helping to shape their lives with exposure to different types of media and technology.
