I teach in a large, urban school district in New York State. The free lunch rate at the school is 93%. I teach a self-contained second and third grade classroom with twelve students who have various handicapping conditions.

My students love to listen to stories. Unfortunately, there are not enough adults in the classroom to always oblige the students when each wants to hear a different story. To help solve that problem, I have recently received individual CD players with headphones for my students. They flock to the "Listening Corner" during free time activities. Now, however, they have devoured my collection of books on CD.

Being aware that their new CD players had come from Donor's Choose, they asked me if the "secret people" (their words) could help them get more books. The attached list of books on CD would excite my students beyond words.

As research shows that students word recognition, fluency and language structure improve with exposure to books and repeated readings, your gift of books and CD's would help my students satisfy their desires to hear repeated readings of books when adults are not readily available. Further, being exposed to correct grammar and voice inflections help children develop fluency.
