Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach kindergarten in a Title 1 school(90% of the students are on free and reduced lunch). We are in an urban setting over half the population is English Learners. We are getting high results on our state test scores and we are close to meeting the state's goal, we gained 70 points and we need 30 more.

Many of the students in my classroom have limited of infrequent exposure to auditory English Language vocabulary through literature. We have an old listening center. We would like to upgrade to Tag Reading system for a couple of reasons, tag can be monitored on the computer meaning I can track student reading and answers to quizzes and The Tag reader also has built in comprehension questions on almost every page of the reader.

At least once a week the students listen to thematic stories, through cassettes on an old listening center with giant poor quality head phones. In order to monitor students and check for understanding I print out book reports and the students complete them after they finish listening to the story. Often some students need to re hear the story they need time to review picture again, or they just do not remember what happened in the story. This tool Tag learning changes that because each student has it's own Tag reader at the center and can now progress at their own level. They can re hear the page. Click of questions and characters for further interactions. All of this can be tracked when the tag reader is connected to a computer with Internet including time spent reading, the number of activities attempted what skills were practiced and how well they completed the questions.

This is another powerful technology tool that helps inspire students and make teachers more efficient and specific in analyzing what areas of need students have. This is an amazing addition to the primary classroom.
