Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach fourth grade in a public elementary school and over 85% of our students are minorities that come from low-income families. I have been extremely lucky throughout my teaching career to be blessed with students that are eager to work very hard.

Accelerated Reader (AR) is an amazing reading program that encourages and challenges students to read and monitor their success through computer-based tests. AR gets students excited about books and improves students' higher order thinking skills. Students choose a book at their own reading level. Points are awarded for each book read and tested. Additionally, incentives are given to the students with the highest number of points or for reaching their goal.

Unfortunately, because of the limited amount of books that I have at the different reading levels, my students are left hungry wanting to read more. I need your assistance in obtaining additional AR books to feed their hunger.

My fourth grade students are like rosebushes that have been planted, taken root, and are now blossoming as readers. Your help will ensure that my students are pruned and shaped into being lifelong readers.
