My students need 35 copies of the historical novel, "Nightjohn". When we study slavery and its impact on American History, there is no better way than a story of personal experience at a level the kids can understand.

8th graders need motivating material! I teach 8th grade at a school with a high percentage of kids living at or above the poverty line; they need reading material that motivates and grabs them. I teach every type of kid - English language learners at all levels, special education, gifted and talented, honors, and the average student.

My students need 35 copies of the historical novel, Nightjohn. When we study slavery and its impact on American History, there is no better way than a story of personal experience at a level the kids can understand. My students sometimes think history is boring and that I might be making it up! I have used this book at other schools and I know my current students cannot miss this experience.

This particular book really shows students the violence and impact of slavery told from a young girls perspective. It puts the information from our textbook into a story that they will never forget. While reading this book aloud, my classes are usually silently listening and if I stop they beg for more.

Your help will allow all my 8th graders to experience this historical novel and share in a classroom experience that they will not soon forget.
