I teach kindergarten in a low income, high need urban school that serves children from kindergarten through fifth grade. I have 7 children who have not had previous school experiences, 5 children who are ESL, and 2 children who are receiving special services.

Kindergarten children learn best through hands-on experiences. The science center allows students to learn how to observe their surroundings, to collect data, and to classify objects. The literacy skills involved in a science center vary from new vocabulary to learning how to create and interpret charts.

At this time my students do not have any place to store their data records. They need a notebook that can be added to and organized to meet the needs of the experiment we are conducting.

Your donation will enable my class to participate in long term science experiments where data collection continues over a weeks time. They will have an opportunity to behave like "real scientists." Who knows, maybe you have helped the next Albert Einstein!
