This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a librarian at an elementary school that has a very high poverty rate. I have been a classroom teacher for 10 years, but this is my second year promoting literacy all day long!!! The children at my school are very diverse, coming from every great corner of our earth. I have all grades of children from Kindergarten to grade 8 coming to check out books from the library.

My school has had huge budget cuts this year and the library has enough money to purchase about 50 books this year for a school of around 1000 students!!! This obviously will not feed their desire to read "new" books!!! A new series of chapter books that the students have been begging for is the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. There are fantasy books with characters that are part bird/part human. We only have sadly, one of these books in the library now.

I always try to encourage our students to read books that they love to give them that lust for reading. Please help us purchase the Maximum Ride series of books so that my students will have books that they love to read. They will be overjoyed to read the series they so love!!!!
