I teach a group of bright, eager fourth graders who are waiting to explore their world. Our school is an inner-city urban school with limited funds for technical resources and a student population whose families cannot provide materials like these video cameras. I am a teacher who is trying to enliven the learning environment by linking my lessons to real life experiences that make learning more relevant and connected to these students' lives. Like all learners, these students are excited by work that is important to them. The projects for which we can use these cameras are unlimited, and will contribute a valuable tool in my efforts to provide the teachable moments teachers desperately need to spark the fire of curiosity in our students. By contributing to this proposal, you will allow me to empower my students with the technology to present what they are learning in an enriched environment. Your gift or donation provides the materials we are lacking to create life-long learners. This gift supports and enlivens the learning experience and makes it possible to get students to buy-in to the learning so vital in creating the scholars and leaders we need for America's future. For example, in studying history, students would be able to utilize the cameras to produce a historical re-enactment or a mock news program in which they would interview historical "celebrities" in a modern format with which they are familiar. In science, student created programs where they demonstrate the scientific concepts through experimentation provide students the opportunity to TEACH what they have learned. These types of projects create learning opportunities that go way beyond the traditional methods and are remembered much longer because of the level of engagement provided by the technical, real-world application using the technology your donation provides. Your contribution will help me to create learners for life...something that is my personal goal in educating the students in my classroom.
