Help my students excel in reading and math using amazing technology! I teach 4th grade at a wonderful school which has been called the most diverse school in our district. However, most of my students are well below grade level in reading and math and I am trying to help them make amazing progress.

Many students in my class are below grade level in reading and math. Our school has a phonics intervention program for beginning readers so we have readers who can sound out words, but not very fast. Many students in my class have fluency issues such as low words-per-minute reading rates. Higher rates are needed to bridge their decoding and comprehension skills. In addition, my students are low in math. In order to maximize my instruction and their attention, I need to teach in small groups. I must provide an engaging and successful math center that can almost take the place of a teacher in order for me to be in two places at once.

To increase fluency in my class I need a modern listening center. I have many exciting audiobooks on CD that will engage students while helping to increase their fluency. In addition to targeting the lower reading students, I have books on CD at higher reading levels to meet the needs of all learners. In addition to utilizing this wonderful tool at reading centers, my students will also benefit during math. Because this listening center has a DVD player, my students will be able to watch math DVDs in a center, like Cyberchase- a stimulating educational cartoon from PBS in which each episode is centered on a core math standard developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). I own almost every episode of Cyberchase on DVD, so my students would benefit immediately.

With your help, you will make it possible for me to help close the many achievement gaps that exist in my classroom. Your donation will ensure my students receive math and reading instruction that is relevant to their technological needs. Please help my teaching compete with the flair of today's students' technological gadgetry.
