I love to watch my eight grade students become entranced by a novel, and the books in this Twilight Series are just perfect for young teens!

If you have ever tried to encourage the average eighth grade student to read a book, you are aware of the challenge! As a teacher, I am constantly on the "look-out" for books that will "grab" these reluctant readers. I am very excited about the Twilight series, by Stephanie Meyer. I have purchased one set with my own money, and the few students who actually had access to my limited supply absolutely could not put the books down!

In my classroom, students work in "literacy groups". They choose a book that they will read and discuss as they go. We need a set of six of each of the four books in the Twilight series so that these books can become part of this powerful and engaging reading experience. Reading benefits students in so many ways: vocabulary, fluency, comprehension. In the social setting of literacy groups, each student is accountable for their reading when the group meets to discuss the books. This is what I consider to be a little positive peer-pressure.
