Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My school is a located in a rural farming community in northern California. Many students do not leave our small town. Most of my students are disadvantaged and have limited resources. This past year a lot of the families received free used home computers from a special program.

Students have little experience in using current technology. To help them with their new home computers I have created a class website. This will encourage the families to use the computers as a resource. Each school day students will create a blog about what we are learning. A digital camera will allow students to photograph student work and activities to add to the blog and website. This will allow parents to have a window into our classroom as well as permit absent students a chance to see what they missed.

The camera will also make it possible for students to learn how to use digital photography/editing and exceptional photos will be entered in the county fair. The camera will also be used to take photographs for the school newspaper and yearbook. The camera will be used by my entire class, as well as students serving on yearbook, newspaper, and student council.

This donated camera will put a tool into the hands of disadvantaged students and allow them to have similar experiences as students from larger towns. Your donation will surely help place more than a thousand smiles into our community.
