A Quest for Biographies

My students need 8 copies of 8 different biography books such as "Who Was Martin Luther King Jr?" for their reading groups.

I am a proud teacher of marvelous and ambitious third graders that love to learn about the lives of famous and historical figures.

Unfortunately, many of our students are unfamiliar with people that are historically important due to the lack of exposure. Newspapers are not written on their level and some of the news is inappropriate for them to hear. The students don't have access to biographies, because there aren't any written in their Reading or Social Studies textbooks. They are always asking about certain people and I give as much information as I can, but reading about that person would give them more facts.

Third graders really get excited about reading chapter books. The "Who Was...?" series of biographies are chapter books that give the students the opportunity not only learn about that particular person, but experience reading a longer book, which some of them have never done. The books are kid-friendly and very entertaining which will peak the interests of the students. The biographies that I am requesting are about Ben Franklin, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Amelia Earhart, Harriet Tubman, and others. Reading about these great individuals would increase my students background knowledge about the people that they know, and introduce them to new historical figures.

Your donation would help my students learn about people that are important in American History and make them want to learn about others.
