My students need spiral notebooks divided into subjects using labels. They will use the highlighters to highlight specific information for later use.

How can a question be HOT? Well, the third graders in my class know that "HOT" is an acronym for "Higher Order Thinking". We use this acronym to describe questions, experiments, and situations in which we are challenging our students to think beyond the knowledge level. We are challenging them to think on a higher order! In today's society, people are expected to work and think in critical ways. The students in my third grade class come from a variety of backgrounds. Many of them are underprivileged and lack the real world experience to make connections and think on a high level. As sad as this truth is, I don't let this be an excuse for underachievement. I know that my students can reach beyond these social limits as long as I give them the chance to practice thinking "outside the box" and challenge them on a daily basis. If you fund this proposal, you will be giving my students "HOT Journals". They may be spiral notebooks to most people, but to the students in my class, these notebooks are their think pads to create and formulate ideas and solutions to real world, challenging problems. With your help, my students will exceed beyond the limits society expects of them and will truly be HIGHER ORDER THINKERS!Isn't that HOT idea?
