Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

This describes the trip of one of the students in my class as her family came to the United States as refugees from an African country. She is a middle school English Language Learner Newcomer and a representative of her classmates who have come to the United States, with or without their families, in search of the American Dream - freedom and a better life.
Economic hardship, family separations, political or religious persecution, displacement...All of the students in my class have experienced one, if not several, of these stressful situations in their young lives. They are the newest of the newcomers in a school were 80% of the students are eligible for free or reduced lunch. They are hard workers, but they do not always have access to the resources they need for their homes or their education.
Two of the skills that my students need to succeed in 21st century America are proficiency in English and competency in computer skills. This request is for the purchase of a classroom computer to be used for Internet research and the development of computer writing skills as students study core subjects of language, history, and science.
Learning a new language and culture can be a very difficult process, but using technology to learn is very motivating for students. The kids will use this ASUS eeepc for projects such as writing a compact for their new school community, developing weather graphs as budding meteorologists, designing webpages for a classroom virtual zoo, and translating a family recipe for a classroom cookbook.
Your help will ensure that students have access to technology that most of the kids do not have at home. These kids are hard workers. They will not disappoint you. Your donation will be utilized multiple times daily.
