I am currently an English teacher, and I am part of a high school reinvention process to reduce high school dropout rates and increase success for all freshmen. I work in an inner-city school district where technology dollars never quite stretch far enough and are only likely to get smaller in the future.

My school has generously provided a laptop for my use in the classroom, but with budget cuts forthcoming in our state, it will be difficult for me to get the tools that will make the best use of this resource. Presentation is everything, especially in education, and the ability to present interesting material in an engaging format such as a web link, a PowerPoint presentation, or other software presentation is an invaluable edge to a hard-working teacher.

A projector for this laptop would make it possible to further integrate technology into every lesson that I teach. With a projector, my students can easily view Internet sites like the turnitin.com site that our school uses to increase writing skills, as well as many other documents and software files, including those provided by our new textbook adoption. Moreover, many of my classes are co-taught classes where special-needs students have been mainstreamed, and where the use of technology is particularly beneficial to these students' understanding.

Funding my project will help to make a resource that the school has already provided an invaluable part of everyday classroom activities. Please help. You can help me to get at-risk kids interested in reading and writing!
