Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As a bilingual first grade teacher, I strive to respect their culture and at the same time move them into mainstream English - speaking, reading , writing, and comprehending - because I know being biliterate is their ticket to a better life.

What would you do if your parents and adult relatives did not speak English? In my 17 years as an elementary teacher in a migrant area, only two of my students have learned English at home before they came to kindergarten.

Repeated listening to a variety of spoken English via the listening center I am seeking will help tremendously. When there is no professional selection on tape or cd available, I can record my own cassettes with the cassette recorder I am seeking to be donated.

How often can you make a huge difference in the lives of struggling second language learners with so little financial expense? With good care, this listening center can last for years and affect scores of little children who are trying to learn to read and write in a language other than their parents speak.
