My students need 24 yoga mats, 24 straps, 24 foam blocks, yoga related curriculum, and a yoga CD.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Due to the fact that I teach from Pre-K through 5th grade, I am always presented with the challenge of preparing a single activity for all these courses. With yoga I am able to do that easily. Yoga is a very exciting physical activity that promotes success and can be practiced by all students. No matter the grade level, all of them can work together at their own pace. They succeed while working on balance, flexibility, and strength and most importantly; improving listening skills, acquiring responsibility, and developing concentration while they practicing yoga poses.
Unfortunately, yoga mats and props are very costly, and because not all Physical Education teachers are qualified to teach yoga, schools sometimes consider such expense unnecessary. However, we need to remember the importance of offering challenging, innovative and fun classes where students can succeed all the time. Children in my school would especially benefit from participating in yoga classes because most of them belong to low-income households and do not have the opportunity to work on certain skills and develop them.
Having yoga mats, straps, blocks, music, and yoga curriculum guides, I would be able to implement a yoga program at my school that would be beneficial to the whole student body. Students would be involved in a new activity that not only would promote physical exercise but also improve listening skill and concentration. Not to mention the mastering of responsibility skills, which could be developed when cleaning and rolling the mats and straps, for instance. Should I receive your kind donation, you can be assured all my students will have at least 24 hours of yoga practice during the school year.
Your help will ensure that my students will participate in many fun, challenging, and innovative yoga classes, where they will improve their balance, flexibility and strength. I thank you in advance for you help and your attention.
