Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My 1st-6th grade super intelligent English as a Second Language students are learning in a closet sized classroom. We are a striving elementary school where 99% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.

My students desire to jump two grade levels in reading! They need to work on their vocabulary, reading comprehension, sentence building and fluency. We do not have the money to get the supplies we need to create reading centers that would facilitate with the learning experience. All students have made one year of growth in a half year's time! We need your help to boost us the rest of the way!

In our closet classroom we fit three computers but only one connects to the Internet. We need an ethernet port for all three computers so students can access reading websites, newspapers and other Internet resources such as Starfall, Ticket to Read and other high interest interactive Internet reading sights. Students will also use the Internet to research projects and topics and then move on to create reports that they will present to the class and the school. My students also need high interest books to motivate them to keep pushing themselves to higher reading levels! These books will allow the students access to interesting topics at their reading level. We also need paper for our classroom because funding has run out and the students need to be able to write down their responses to what they read.

Your help will enable my students to have a productive year and a productive life!. By boosting these students' reading levels, you will empower them to comprehend their world. You will give them the tools they need to go to college in the year 2015!
