The impact that you have had on my students is nothing short of a miracle. To be able to begin the year and already have resources for the kids to be able to create a project for the first civilization that we studied this year has never happened in the 11 years that I have been teaching Social Studies. The first project was the students making maps and brochures telling about Ancient China. They had everything that they could think of to create these maps and brochures from yarn to coloring pencils. \r\nWhen my students first saw the materials they were so ready to get started on their projects and we hadn't completed the unit! It made them more attentive, they took better notes, and they even asked more in-depth questions to make sure that they had the research they needed to successfully complete the maps and brochures. They were eager to help to unpack the boxes so they could see what we got and they even gave me great ideas for future projects!\r\n With so many materials that I have received through donors choose we will be able to create so many more projects this year. We are currently working on Japan and we are making physical maps and compare and contrast charts. With the materials that I have left we have so many more projects in mind that I can't wait to see them execute. They were so excited to see all of the new materials and I loved the way that they were coming up with ideas on how each of the different materials could be used during our daily learning. I teach 6th and 7th grade, so the projects were vastly different, but very impactful to both grade levels.\r\nThe sixth graders were learning about ancient Egypt, so we created mummies and pyramids. The seventh graders were learning about ancient Africa, so we created mask that the dancers of the griots wore with a twist. The students' masks depicted at least eight symbols that explained them and their families.\r\nTo be in the classroom while these students created their masterpieces were unbelievable! I know that these lessons will forever be engrained in their minds as something that they will never forget. The students were able to display their projects in the hallway and the library. After winter break, we will began new ancient civilizations and there will be more hands-on projects to come. Again thank you so much for your generous contributions to KMS.","fullyFundedDate":1726704048794,"projectUrl":"project/new-projects-on-the-way-learning-the-km/8689090/","projectTitle":"New Projects on the Way, Learning the KMS Way!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hayes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8695999_orig.jpg?crop=1416,1416,x100,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1686263634869","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8695999"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42479","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":556,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":68,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":52.7,"schoolId":42479,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kingsbury Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kingsbury Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/memphis-shelby-county-schools/kingsbury-middle-school/42479"}
