I am a firm believer that music is a universal language and truly one of the greatest of the arts! I teach high school band in a school that is 55% free/reduced lunch, 80% African American, 10% White, 5%Hispanic, 5% Asian. My band program is extremely diverse and encompasses all aspects of the student population including students with special needs, gifted and talented students, and students who come from extreme financial backgrounds (well off and disadvantaged).

In two years our band program has grown from 22 to 60 students and we're anticipating 75-80 next year! This year marked the first time our marching and concert bands competed since 1986! That's 21 years! The students scored SUPERIOR in both categories! Needless to say, we've spent 2 years purchasing uniforms and instruments. The kids are motivated, excited about learning, and want to be successful. Band is a bright shining gem in an otherwise troubled school situation. Honestly, I have more kids interested in being in band than I do instruments. We need more concert percussion instruments, including suspended and crash cymbals.

We are in desperate need of 2 Sabian suspended cymbals (19" & 20") and 1 pair of Sabian crash cymbals. The cymbals will add to our growing stock of concert percussion instruments. It will allow me to have more students participate in concert and marching band. I have the students interest, I have the skills to teach them, now I need the actual instruments. It is an amazing experience to watch students from all walks of life learn to play music, to cooperate together, and to achieve together.

Your help will ensure that every kid who wants to participate in band will have an instrument to play. I promise that given the resources our band will continue to expand, grow, and have a positive lasting effect on children's lives.
