I teach the only Transitional First grade classroom in the district. I have 15 students, who are selected by a team of teachers. These students are at risk. They are not special ed or behavioral problem. They are students who need time to grow. My classroom is considered the gift of time.

The school is the largest in the State of Kansas. Southeast Kansas is a poor area. These students need an extra boost to be life long learners. Hands-on is the way we best retain what we learn.

The classroom is a busy one. We are constantly on the move; not a lot of pencil paper for us! We learn best by being involved. Items that I have selected are hands-on activity based learning tools. The items from Lakeshore that I have chosen will allow my students to build words, string words from a kit, and the activity with the balls also allow for motor skills to be used. Each item I have chosen will involve the whole child. They are activities that make learning fun.

The purchase of any of these items will enable one or all of my students to have success. The extra year we are asking of these students must be a successful one. Educating the whole child is what my program is about. Please help me make this year and future years the difference for my students.
