Reading can be compared to driving a car you enjoy it when you can do it smoothly and it takes you where you want to go. I am a second grade teacher and I teach all of the subject areas.

I have a group of students that are struggling readers. As I previously stated reading can be compared to driving a car. My students do not read smoothly they sort of sputter along or hit constant pot holes which causes them to become frustrated with reading. On the other hand I have students who are magnificent readers and move along smoothly however, they do not show inflation in their voices nor do they stop for the red lights (periods etc).

I need cassette recorders and headphones to assist my students in becoming smooth readers. If my students were able to listen to themselves read they would grasp the concept of sputtering along and improving to make their car ride smoothly. I believe that the cassette recorders and headphones could provide my students with the insurance they require to become better readers/drivers. In addition the resources would benefit my smooth readers by making their ride more exciting.

Imagine starting a car and having the desire to reach the finish line or a destination but the other cars are passing you because you are unable to see what you need to do in order to go forward. Take the time to help my students to become better readers. In addition they would be able to be the car that everyone wants to ride.
