Kids Love My Weird School

My students need 22 book titles from the fun introduction to chapter book series "My Weird School" to push themselves to the next level in reading.

I am a first year teacher at a first year K-8 school in Illinois. We are a public contract school committed to moving our students from multiple grade levels below where they should be, to on or above grade level by the end of their time with us. We are focused on getting them into competitive high schools so they can succeed and go on to college to reach the great potential they have!

My students have fallen in love with the one book of this series I had in my classroom and have been begging for more. While I have a classroom library suitable for those below level and above, I have very few chapter books at the appropriate level for the students to really transition from picture books to chapter books.

The My Weird School series really meets my students where they are while getting them used to reading longer books which require closer attention, more focus, and more time. Our class goal is for everyone to be reading chapter books at the end of the year, and this would be a perfect fit for some of my students who struggle a bit more, or who don't like to read the same book for an extended period of time. The books are funny and the kids love the first one! They've been asking for more.

Choosing to support my project will allow my students to meet our class goal with my limited resources as a first year teacher in a first year school. If I can get them to love books, there will be no stopping them. I am excited to see what they can accomplish and I hope you are too!
