I am a high school resource teacher. I teach tenth grade students with learning disabilities in reading, math and writing. Since the majority of my students have learning disabilities in reading, I am constantly searching for new and innovative resources to inspire my struggling and reluctant readers. Help Us Read With Ease is a project designed to equip my resource classroom with 42 titles from the Orca Soundings Teen Fiction for Reluctant Readers Novel Collection!! The Orca Soundings Collection consists of over forty short, high-interest novels with contemporary themes written especially for teens reading below grade level. This collection uses simple vocabulary and short sentences combined with authentic dialogue and engrossing subject matter. Some of the titles include: Battle of the Bands, Kicked Out, Grind, Saving Grace, and Charmed. In addition to using this collection of novels with my students with learning disabilities, I would like to use this collection as part of a reading intervention program to meet the needs of all struggling and reluctant readers at our high school! With YOUR help, students at our high school will be able to ENJOY READING WITH EASE!! Thank You for Considering This Proposal!!
