This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Help our students project their PowerPoint creations by having our own digital projector!

Our students need background knowledge that affluent communities take for granted. I recall an occasion when our class was reading a story that brought up the concept of square dancing; most of my students did not comprehend this type of dance. By chance I had a digital projector checked-out for the day; I quickly went on-line and showed the class a Googled video of square-dancing. They were able to see it performed in a matter of seconds! A digital projector, by means of the Internet, helps me fill their background knowledge gaps!

A digital projector in my classroom will enable my students to share their PowerPoint presentations based on OUR time-line and not based on the check-out schedule. It is also a valuable tool during "teachable moments." Often our students need a reference in order to fully comprehend the literature we read; a digital projector helps the class visually experience complex concepts.
