Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach kindergarten in a high-need, low income neighborhood. Our school is a title 1 school with 100% free breakfast and lunch. My students are highly motivated and very diverse. They are faced with daily challenges and the school is unable to provide all the materials that are needed in order for them to reach their full potential.
My students come to school ready and eager to learn. I provide them with a safe and nurturing environment where they feel comfortable taking risks and trying on new things. Unfortunately, I can not provide all the supplies that are needed for there to be a proper arts education program. My students are creative and enjoy arts education, but there are items that are needed to meet their individual needs and interests.
My students need the supplies that you can provide for our classroom. We need a painting easel with paint pots, brushes, and aprons for them to use when creating paintings. We also need water color paper that we can use with the paints that we already have. We need a place to hold the supplies that are used when creating collages and other paper products. The writing center would be a perfect item to do this. The dough will be used to create sculptures of ourselves, others, and topics that we are studying. The resources that you provide will allow my students to express themselves through a variety of mediums and contribute to their personal growth.
Please help my students by supporting arts education in the classroom. My students need the supplies and resources that you can provide to help them reach their full potential. You will make it possible for them to create art work that supports the learning that is going on in our classroom and have experiences that would not occur otherwise.
