I Came, I Saw, I Learned

My project needs a screen to see what my LCD projector shows, and a bluetooth setup to be able to conduct lessons from any part of the room.

In a college town, it is a tragedy that our school doesn't have half the technological resources that the public university does. Our school is high need, and even in 7th grade my students need to start using technology as much as possible to ensure their academic success. In a life science classroom such as ours, there are many scientific concepts that cannot be addressed simply from a book.

My students love science because there are so many interesting aspects of it. This enthusiasm dies for the most part by the time they get into high school science - my passion is to keep that spark alive to help them become life long scientists. With our limited technology though, it's hard to keep them interested using pictures in a book, or worksheets. They need up to date movies, pictures of microscopic organisms, or news articles about concepts we are learning that occur in their region. All of these will help their interest in science to blossom.

I recently got a LCD projector from another grant, and I would love these accessories to enhance the student's learning. Right now, I have to use the shiny white board, which hurts their eyes. Also, I am tied to my computer and I would love the opportunity to be able to circulate (to reinforce positive behavior and reduce off task behaviors) and be able to keep the presentations fun in class. Also, having a mobile keyboard/mouse will enable the students to actively participate with out leaving their seat, because I can hand THEM the mouse to control what happens next.

You will enable my students to see things they could have never imagined, and will help ensure that they feel positively about science. I tell my students that a scientist is anyone who asks questions and finds answers, and I want them to be empowered to do that for the rest of their lives.
