It is Music! In our rural county seat, our students rarely have the opportunity to attend live music performances. There are no symphony orchestras, professional Broadway touring companies, or live music venues. So, it is my task as music teacher to get them interested in music as an art form. My third grade students are very excited about learning to make music by playing the recorder. However, they are less enthusiastic about learning to read notes on the staff and notating rhythms. I have developed a game in which each student sits on a note, rest, or other music symbol printed on the Noteworthy music rug. One child will choose three other students to participate with him. The task is to create a measure of music using only the symbols that these four children are sitting on. All we lack is the rug! With your help in creating this exciting musical environment, we may uncover and inspire a world class musician, or at the very least, instill an appreciation for music in a whole generation of children. hide» My project needs a rug with a staff and musical symbols to enhance my students' ability to read notes and rhythms. details» |
