Imagine being told that the only way to get your reading level up is to READ, but when you get to class there are not many books. Imagine being given a computer program that can help, but the computers in your classroom don't work or are very slow.
I teach 10th grade at a very high poverty school.
Many of my students will be the first in their family to graduate from high school and go to college. I teach at a high poverty school and not many materials are allotted to us. As their teacher I am doing my best to get their reading level up so that they can pass the FCAT(a test they have to pass for graduation). Since the test is set on a 10th-grade reading level and my students are around 6th or 7th, they are in need of books and computers.
My Project
To raise my students test scores they use a computer program called Reading Plus. However, with only 5 working computers in the class and them being very slow, many times they spend half the class just logging on. With the tablet they will be able to sit comfortably at their seat and work without worrying about it freezing or not saving their work. They will also be able to use it for e-books instead of worrying about which books I have available and that they are torn. With the tablet they will have access to all books.
This e-reader tablet is going to open all kinds of doors for them and help their test scores by making them more comfortable when they start working on their reading level.
They will be able to work on Reading Plus when they want and not have to worry about the computers not working.
