My Students

My favorite saying and words to live by are "Be a Maker". My 500 students and I are Makers every day in our middle school art room. Whether with traditional art media or cutting edge digital media, we are Makers!

My students are eager, active, and curious learners.

They are also the future of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) for our country. Our art room is a place for creativity, exploration, collaboration and learning new ways of doing things.

My Project

The Makerbot 3D printer will be used to create 3D objects that my students design using the 123D Design app on their iPads. We are a 1:1 iPad initiative school and as such, technology is a big part of our daily experience. Using the iPad to design a 3D piece and then printing it out will enable my students to create authentic objects based on their own ideas and visions, developing problem solving skills along the way.

Donations to this project will allow us to have the Makerbot 3D printer and materials right in our own classroom.

My students' lives will be enriched as they consider creating art in a whole new way. To be able to work with these materials in the middle school classroom will create a foundation for students to continue an education based on inquiry and exploration. With these STEAM roots established, I expect they will continue on to enrich our lives with the discoveries they make.
