The 7th and 8th grade students with whom I work enjoy coming to art class because it provides an opportunity for them to use a different skill set than what they use in their academic classes. They are social and enjoy light conversations while they create. They often enter the art room stressed by studying and testing, but leave feeling renewed and refreshed. Our special education population feels confident in the art room, where their projects fit right in with all the others, and they can confidently take the lead on group projects. Working with clay appeals to every student and learning the ceramic process is an important part of understanding the medium. We would like to install our kiln right next to the art room, where we can use it all the time! To do so, we must vent it for safe, efficient firing. Please donate and help us buy a kiln vent!
