Every Reader Deserves a Seat on the Team

Help me give my students equal access to Battle of the Books titles so every reader has the opportunity to read, prepare, and earn a seat on the team.

My Project

My students are curious, competitive, and eager to be part of something bigger than themselves. Many of them love the idea of Battle of the Books because it turns reading into a team experience. They are not simply reading for a grade; they are reading to contribute, answer questions, support their teammates, and proudly represent our school.

The books requested through this project will give students access to the titles they need to prepare for our Elementary Battle of the Books team.

Multiple copies are especially important because students need time to read, reread, discuss, and share books throughout the year. Enough copies mean more students can participate at the same time instead of waiting weeks for a title to become available.

For many of my students, buying a full set of competition books at home simply isn't realistic. I want every student to have the same opportunity to earn a place on the team based on effort, commitment, and a love of reading, not on whether their family can afford the books.

These resources will help students strengthen reading comprehension, vocabulary, memory, communication, and teamwork. Through weekly practices, book discussions, and friendly competition, students will learn to listen closely, recall important details, think critically, and depend on one another.

Most importantly, these books will help our students see themselves as readers. When a reluctant reader discovers a book they cannot put down, when a student correctly answers a question for their team, or when classmates celebrate one another's reading accomplishments, reading becomes something exciting and meaningful.

With your support, we can make sure every reader has a book in their hands, an opportunity to participate, and a seat on the team.
