Calming Reading Corner

Help me give my students a calming reading corner that will meet a variety of my students and discover the love for reading and finding a variety of ways to calm down and get focused!

My Project

My students have always loved our calming corner. This year I had to move into a smaller room and I am combining the calming corner with reading. The students have always loved this space but it is in need of a makeover. The materials will provide a space for them to relax and engage with books. Each item will make the space comfortable to the students. Some are even portable so that all students can enjoy space throughout the classroom.

Each item selected will assist the students in either reading or calming down.

The weighted pets are great tools for sensory needs and they can read to them. The light offers a home like experience. The sensory items permit a step into calming down when upset and offer a variety of "pets" to read to if needed. The goal is to make reading into a fun and enjoyable experience. To foster a love for reading and to provide a calm space where they can feel safe to learn to read. I can't wait to read the Spot Book series to them!
